How to Use the Fulton County Jail Roster
The official tool is the Fulton Jail Manager inmate search. The system is hosted on the same Tyler cloud the Clerk uses for court records, but it is a separate portal for jail data only. Search returns booking number, name, charges entered at intake, and custody status when those fields are public.
Before searching, gather the full legal name, the booking number if known, and the date of birth. Fulton has many common Atlanta-area names; an exact match search pulls cleaner results.

- Open the Fulton Jail Manager on a modern browser.
- Enter the last name, then the first name. Add the date of birth if needed.
- Use a booking number when you have one; it gives an exact match.
- Open the profile to read charges, booking date, and bond if shown.
- If the person was just arrested, try again after a few hours; intake can lag.
- If the search returns nothing, check spelling, try a maiden name, or check state or federal systems.
Fulton County Jail Search Fields
The Jail Manager search box uses a small set of fields. Each one helps narrow the result. The table below maps the fields the portal usually shows. Field labels and date formats can change with a system update.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Recommended | Search by exact last name; try variants for hyphenated names. |
| First Name | Text | No | Narrows common-name matches. |
| Middle Name | Text | No | Use when known. |
| Booking Number | Text | No | Best for an exact match; gives one record. |
| Date of Birth | Date | No | Confirm format on the live portal before entering. |
| Search | Button | n/a | Runs the query. |
| Reset / Clear | Button | n/a | Clears the form. |
What a Fulton Inmate Profile Shows
A roster profile is a snapshot of a person in custody, not the full court file. Each field maps to a part of the intake or housing record. The table below lists the public-facing fields a Fulton inmate profile may show. Sensitive fields like medical status, mental-health flags, and protective custody do not appear in the public view.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Full legal name as entered at booking. |
| Booking Number | Unique ID tied to this admission to the jail. |
| Booking Date / Time | When the person was processed into custody. |
| Age / DOB | Date of birth or age; DOB may be partly redacted. |
| Sex, Race, Height, Weight | Basic descriptive fields entered at intake. |
| Mugshot | Booking photo when publicly available. |
| Arresting Agency | Police agency that brought the person to the jail. |
| Charges | Charge description and Georgia statute code when entered. |
| Case or Warrant Number | Linked court case or warrant ID. |
| Bond | Amount and type per charge, when set. |
| Housing Location | Facility or unit, when shown. |
| Court Date | Upcoming hearing date, when scheduled. |
| Status | In custody, released, or transferred. |
| Holds / Detainers | Other agency holds, when shown. |
Note: A jail charge entry is a booking line, not a conviction; the court docket is the place to read the final outcome.
Fulton County Jail Facilities
The main Fulton facility is the Rice Street jail in northwest Atlanta. The downtown Justice Center holds people in transit to and from court. The Sheriff's jail page covers visitation, bonding, mail, telephone, and commissary rules.

The Fulton County Jail Booking Process
After arrest, a person is brought to the jail for intake. Identification is checked, fingerprints and a photo are taken, and personal property is inventoried. Medical and mental-health screening follow. The charge is entered into the jail system, and the warrant or arrest paperwork is reviewed for validity.
From there, the person is set for a first appearance in front of a magistrate. The judge reads the charges and sets bond when the law allows. Some charges allow no bond at first appearance because of the offense or a prior order. Once classified, the person is housed in a unit that matches the security, medical, mental-health, and protective custody factors.
Arresting agencies in Fulton County range from the Sheriff's Office and Atlanta Police to municipal departments, Georgia State Patrol, MARTA Police, campus police, and federal task force officers. The arresting agency on a booking line is not always the same as the prosecutor or the court that will hear the case. A jail classification term like "maximum," "medical," or "protective custody" is a housing label, not a separate criminal charge.
Bond, First Appearance, and Release
Bond may be cash, surety, property, or recognizance. The amount and type depend on the charge and the judge's order. Posting bond does not end the case. It releases the person under conditions until the next court date. Missing the next date can cause a bench warrant and bond forfeiture.
Release from the Fulton jail can take hours after bond is posted because staff must verify paperwork, check for other warrants, process property, and update the system. Even after a release order from court, staff must confirm that no other agency hold exists. For active warrants and holds, see Fulton County warrant records.
Visitation Hours and Communication
Social visitation, attorney visits, mail, phone calls, and tablet messaging each follow their own rules at the Fulton jail. The Sheriff publishes current schedule and procedure on the official inmate visitation page. Visitors must follow ID, dress, and conduct rules. Confirm the current schedule on the official page before arriving.
| Day | Visitation Window | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Tuesday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Wednesday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Thursday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Friday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Saturday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
| Sunday | Per Sheriff's posted schedule | Confirm on official page |
Attorney visits run on a separate track from social visits and are protected as legal communication. Inmate phone calls and tablet messages are usually recorded except for attorney calls. Personal mail, money deposits, and commissary orders use approved vendors listed on the Sheriff's site. Cash should not be mailed.
Holds, Detainers, and Out-of-County Transfers
A "hold" on a Fulton inmate profile means another agency wants the person held even if local bond is posted. Holds can come from another Georgia county, a probation office, a state agency, a federal agency, or an immigration detainer. Holds can prevent release until they are cleared.
Public profiles may show a hold but not the full detail behind it. A bondsman or attorney should always check for holds before telling family that a person will be released after payment. Some Fulton inmates are transferred to the Georgia Department of Corrections or to federal custody after sentencing; once that happens, the Fulton roster will no longer list them as housed locally.
Records timing can move in both directions. A booking entry may post before the court docket catches up to a dismissal, and a court ruling may not clear a jail hold tied to a different agency. The Sheriff's intake staff has to verify each step before the system updates, so a public roster view is a snapshot rather than a live feed.
State and Federal Custody Searches
Once a person is sentenced to state prison, the Georgia Department of Corrections offender query is the right tool. The Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles handles parole and clemency. For federal custody, the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator is the right tool. For custody-status notifications, VINELink is a free service.

The federal BOP inmate locator lets users search by name or BOP register number for people in federal custody, including former Fulton arrestees transferred to a federal facility.

The VINELink service is the standard tool for custody-status notifications. A registered user can get a phone, email, or text alert when an inmate's status changes in a participating state.

Why Someone May Not Appear in the Fulton Roster
A missing roster hit does not always mean a person is free. Booking can lag a few hours after arrest. A person could be at a hospital or a different agency facility. Spelling errors, hyphenated names, suffix usage, or nickname entries can hide a record. Juvenile bookings do not appear on the public adult roster. A federal or out-of-county arrest may not show in Fulton's system at all.
